I Am Conscious, I Am Love, 2017

I'm not a human
I am a dove
I'm your conscious
I am love
All I really need is to know that
You believe

Inspired by the lyrics of the late Prince’s ”I Would Die 4 U,” I Am Conscious, I Am Love will be a two-part exhibition, featuring solo shows by the artists Amina Ross and William Estrada, that celebrates intentionality and spiritual knowing.

The strategy of play, for both adult and children, will be used to engage local audiences who pass by the front yard of Terrain Exhibitions, co-presented by Chicago Artists Coalition. Interactive, site-specific or site-responsive installations and outdoor sculptures stage a public place for discovery through autonomous play.

Declaring Our Presence, an installation by William Estrada, features sculptural work that reclaims public space as a sanctuary and a place for communion; a place to listen, a place to think, a place to talk, and a place to laugh while connecting through prompts and art making.

Mother’s Reflection, an installation by Amina Ross, features sculptural works that explore legacy, inheritance, and femme-folk practices. Ross calls upon familial, matriarchal traditions to explore community, legacy and ancestral histories. Who was here before? Who is here now? Who will come after? Labor, material wealth, lineage, and the spiritual realm find form through Ross’s sculptural works.
